The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) says restrictions on the movement of fresh fruit and vegetables within an Auckland suburb look set to continue for some time.

Fourteen Queensland fruit flies have so far been found in Grey Lynn, and a 1.5 kilometre quarantine area around the first find remained in place.

MPI said five properties close to the first discovery were regularly being treated with foliage spray and insecticide.

It said an end date to the almost month-long biosecurity operation was still unclear.
