One person has been killed in a two-car crash on State Highway 73, known as the West Coast Road, on the western outskirts of Christchurch this morning.
The crash happened a short distance west of the intersection with Miners Road shortly after 7.30am.
Witnesses say a red Mazda Eunos and a silver Nissan Sunny collided as the Mazda tried to do a u-turn.
The 64-year-old driver and sole occupant of the Mazda died at the scene.
The driver and sole occupant of the other car was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
