DHB chief executive stands down

4:23 pm on 17 March 2015

The chief executive of the Hutt Valley and Wairarapa District Health Boards, Graham Dyer, is to stand down.

It follows significant differences between chiefs at the three Wellington region DHBs.

In a statement, Graham Dyer said he would step down from his roles at Hutt Valley and Wairarapa at the end of April, saying that after five years, his task had been completed.

Mr Dyer would not be interviewed, and nor would the chair of the Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast DHBs, Virginia Hope.

The two went to mediation last year in a bitter row over finances and the pace of mergers under a 3-DHB model for the region.

Radio New Zealand understands Dr Hope was worried about financial under-performance at Hutt Valley and Wairarapa, while Mr Dyer opposed a plan supported by Dr Hope and others for a single chief executive.
