The low cloud is now clearing but there's a backlog caused by this morning's cancellations and delays.

Air New Zealand says it's had to cancel four return, and two one-way services this morning, affecting about a thousand passengers.

There have also been numerous delays, and a flight from Blenheim to Wellington had to be diverted to Palmerston North.

Air New Zealand says conditions in Wellington have since improved and services are now operating.

But it warns there will be some flow on effects from this morning's problems.

Passengers are urged to check Wellington Airport's website or with their airline to see whether their flight is delayed.
