Over 10 percent of residents in Christchurch's Port Hills red zone have not accepted the Crown's offer of compensation for their earthquake-damaged land.

However, the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority said 407 of 455 property owners had accepted the offer, which closed last week.

Residents originally had a deadline of August 2013 to decide whether to sell their property to the Crown, but an extension was given because of delays in the results of a review of the Port Hills zoning decisions.

The authority's acting chief executive John Ombler said he knew some property owners would not accept the voluntary offer.

Mr Ombler said some residents were still investigating options to mitigate rock fall with the council.
