Christchurch Boys' High School has launched an online fundraising page in a bid to cover the costs of fixing the uninsured shrine.

Unveiled in 1927, the memorial recognises the 148 former pupils killed in the First World War.

The school's headmaster, Nic Hill, said it was an important part of annual ANZAC Day commemorations.

The memorial suffered major structural damage in the Canterbury quakes and its restoration had now been prioritised.

Mr Hill was confident the school would raise the money.
