Delays continue for hundreds of Wellington train commuters after a fault this afternoon forced the cancellation of dozens of services.

A Tranz Metro spokesperson said a points failure meant track intersections could not be changed and peak hour trains, which usually arrive every 10 to 15 minutes, were operating on a half-hour timetable instead.
She said even if the fault was fixed this evening, it was too late to reinstate the peak hour timetable because none of the trains were in the right place.
The fault affects the Johnsonville, Hutt Valley, Melling and Kapiti lines.
The company said the fault would be repaired in time for the morning rush.
