Police have started a homicide investigation after the death of a man in the Hutt Valley suburb of Taita tonight.

They said his body was found in a house after they were alerted about 8pm.
The discovery of the body was followed by the arrival of the Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) on High Street but it is not known at this stage if anyone has been arrested.
A witness who declined to be named said she came back to find a body lying in a pool of blood. She said she did not see anyone else.
She said she saw the AOS arrive but declined to discuss what she saw of their operations.
No further information is available at this stage.
