Injured tourist in cave rescue

An American tourist has been rescued from a cave on the West Coast.

The woman was part of a guided group tour in the cave near Charleston when she slipped and suffered a suspected broken leg on Sunday evening.

Search and Rescue said she was about 300m into the cave when the accident happened.

They said about 20 people were involved in the difficult rescue which involved carrying the woman over slippery, steep limestone rock.

She was airlifted to hospital for treatment.
