7:02 pm on 16 January 2015

A 24-year-old man has been charged with breaking into a pharmacy in the Northland town of Kerikeri, after a low-

speed police chase early this morning, involving a scooter.

The police said the man broke into the Unichem Pharmacy about half past two this morning but fled when the alarm went off.

Just over an hour later, a police patrol spotted him driving a 50cc scooter down the Heritage Bypass and gave chase.

But the scooter driver refused to stop, travelling at speeds of about 35 kilometres per hour.

Eventually the police managed to pull him over.

He is charged with possessing a knife in a public place, failing to stop and burglary.
