Woodville death treated as homicide

6:19 pm on 5 January 2015

The body of a Woodville man, whose death is now the subject of a police investigation, has been removed from the house where he died.

Manawatu police said the body was removed from the Ormond Street house about 3pm today, while a local kaumatua performed a blessing and karakia.

The body was taken to Palmerston North Hospital, where a post mortem will be conducted tomorrow.

Police said there was a fight at the house and they were seeking the weapon used in the assault, but would not say at this stage what it was.

A team of 20 police officers from as far afield as Whanganui and Taranaki is examining the scene and is expected to be there for the next day or two.

The man's name is likely to be released tomorrow.
