Submissions oppose arterial extension

5:06 pm on 23 December 2014

Most of the 45 submissions the Christchurch City Council has received on a proposed new motorway known as the northern arterial extension are opposed to the project.

The work, which also involved widening Cranford St, was designed to ease traffic congestion caused by new housing developments on the city's northern outskirts.

Thirty-seven submissions were against it.

The new road would link with the Transport Agency's proposed northern arterial motorway.

A commissioner would now be appointed to consider people's feedback with submissions due to be heard in April.
