School faces Christian studies complaint

A Palmerston North parent has complained to the Human Rights Commission over a plan by her children's school to teach Christian education classes in school time.

Belinda Lewer said classes proposed at Milson School would discriminate against non-Christians.

Board of trustees chair Sarah Spillane, said it would consider Ms Lewer's concerns at a meeting on Tuesday afternoon and did not want to comment further before then.

St Heliers School in Auckland dropped religious classes in February when faced with a backlash from parents who took the case to the Human Rights Commission.
