Labour questions leaky school building repair cost

6:36 pm on 17 September 2011

The Labour Party is questioning whether the Ministry of Education needs to spend $1.5 billion replacing school buildings it says are leaky.

The ministry says it has a list of about 200 schools that need repair because of weather damage.

Labour education spokesperson Sue Moroney says some of the people involved in the building of one of those schools, Rototuna Primary in Hamilton, believe it could have been easily fixed for less than $100,000.

Instead, the ministry is set to spend $2.5 million.
