New rules for rest home auditors

5:39 am on 3 June 2010

The Government is toughening the rules for organisations that audit rest homes.

At present, about eight audit agencies monitor 700 rest homes.

From the end of the year, these auditors will have to be accredited by an agency approved by the Ministry of Health, or risk losing their ability to provide audits.

Health Minister Tony Ryall says the changes are designed to give greater assurance about the quality of the work the auditors are doing.
