The Government is to announce on Wednesday more details of a nine-day fortnight that's being investigated as a way to help save jobs.
Some parts of the plan suggested at a Jobs Summit on 27 February were confirmed by Cabinet on Monday.
Under the proposal, the Government will pay workers who adopt shorter working hours a training allowance.
That allowance is expected to be the equivalent of the minimum wage, which from 1 April will be $12.50 per hour.
Radio New Zealand's political editor says it also appears the Government will restrict the scheme to large companies, which are unionised.
More details of the proposal still have to be considered by the Cabinet next Monday before it can proceed.?
