Our correspondent in the US territory filing last night, with results of just the Nu'uuli polling place yet to come in, said the clear winners of the 2020 gubernatorial election were Lemanu Palepoi Sialega Mauga and Talauega Eleasalo Ale.

At 10:45pm last night unofficial results showed the pair were polling 59.9 percent of the 12,665 votes counted pending the results from Nuuuli.

It is on track to be a decisive victory for the long-serving former Lt Governor Lemanu and former Attorney General Talauega.

The only polling place where they were out-polled by the Gaoteote/Fa'iivae team was Malaeloa Aitulagi, where they were behind by 10 votes.

Their competitors Gaoteoteote Palaie Tofau and Faiivae Alex Iuli Godinet garnered 22.2 percent, I'aulualo Faafetai Talia and Tapaau Dan Mageo Aga polled 12.6 percent and Nuanuaolefeagaiga Saoluaga Nua received 5.3 percent.

In the congressional race Aumua Amata has won by a landslide majority over challengers Dr. Oreta Tufaga Mapu Crichton and Meleagi Suitonu Chapman.

Official results for the American Samoa election will be declared in seven days time.
