An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 was felt in the south of the South Island on Wednesday.
GNS Science says the quake occurred just after 7pm and was centred 190 kms south-west of Tuatapere at a depth of 15 kms.
Last week, a 5.8 was recorded in the same area and was followed by a series of aftershocks ranging from magnitude 3 to magnitude 4.8.
