A new report indicates moves to make cellphone calls and texts cheaper are having only a slight impact.
The Commerce Commission decided to regulate the costs between telecommunication networks four months ago, and on Thursday issued its first report into what progress is being made.
The Telecommunications Commissioner Ross Patterson told Nine to Noon the early trends are heading in the right direction, but there is still a long way to go.
He says a good measure to judge the situation by is the number of people making calls to other networks, which has increased by 1.2%.
The report also shows the cost difference between ringing someone on another network, and calling someone on your own network has reduced by 4.4%. The comparison for texts sees a drop of 3.4%.
