A man who received a severe electric shock while putting up a flagpole next to powerlines in Auckland has died in Middlemore Hospital.

Jason Webb, 42, and another worker were injured when the flagpole they were erecting in Mt Eden touched overhanging powerlines.

Mr Webb was badly burned and had been in intensive care since 12 August.

His brother, Dwayne Webb, says the other worker who was hurt has been discharged from hospital but is still extremely upset.

He says Jason Webb leaves behind a wife, a nine-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter.
