A 28-year-old Otaki man is in hospital after he was shot and injured by police on Thursday.
Inspector Dave White says police officers went to a house in the town in the early hours of the morning to arrest a man for assault and driving while disqualified.
He says shortly after police arrived there was a confrontation with the accused, which resulted in him being shot in the arm.
Inspector White says paramedics and police provided medical attention, before the victim was taken to hospital in Palmerston North.
Police from Palmerston North and Whanganui will investigate the shooting.
