Flooding has blocked roads in the lower South Island, with more rain expected.
Early on Sunday afternoon, New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) said State Highway 90 between Tapanui and Waikoikoi was closed due to flooding, and a detour was in place.
"Southbound traffic should turn right onto Station Road, continue onto Seddon Hill Road, turn left onto Koi Road, then back onto SH90. The reverse applies for northbound traffic.
"People should allow extra time for travel."
Other highways and roads in the area may also be blocked or down to one lane.
"People should take note of signage and take care where there is water on the roads."
Several roads are also closed by flooding in the Clutha District.
Toko Mouth Road is closed from Tokoiti School to Elliotvale Road.
Elliotvale Road is closed between Blackbridge Road and Toko Mouth Road.
Greenvale Road and Butts Road are also closed.
The Clutha District Council said earlier that flood waters had dropped since midday, and rainfall was expected to ease.

Strong-wind watches were also coming for Queenstown Lakes District, Central Otago, Clutha District north of Tapanui and Southland north of Riversdale, and the Canterbury High Country, as well as Wairarapa and Wellington in the North Island.
