Boat owners are being encouraged to book a haulout ahead of the busy summer season.
Haulouts helped avoid marine pests, which spread by hull fouling and getting into ballast water.
Auckland Council's senior marine biosecurity advisor, Sam Happy, said an up-to-date antifoul or recent clean was the best way to stop them.
She said it was especially important for those heading to the outer Hauraki Gulf Islands, including Aotea/Great Barrier Island, and further afield into Northland and Coromandel this summer.
Boatyards and marine trades across the North Island have said their peak period would start in October.
