A 39-year-old Mangere man has been arrested after getting into someone's car holding what appeared to be a gun.
Police said they were called to Aranui Road in Mount Wellington around 8pm on Saturday by the driver of the car.
As they were making enquiries, a second group of people reported being threatened in a similar manner nearby.
Police took the man into custody at around 8.20pm.
While no gun was found, the man was still charged with two counts of presenting a firearm-like object and unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle.
Police said that while nobody was hurt, it was a distressing ordeal for those involved.
The man is due to appear in the Auckland District Court on Thursday.
