24/7 liquor ban for Otahuhu parks and reserves

5:07 am on 15 July 2010

Auckland City Council has for the first time moved to make some of its parks and reserves off limits to alcohol 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

The ban, which could be in place by August, affects areas in the suburb of Otahuhu.

Round-the-clock liquor bans are already in place at a range of business and shopping areas, but this is the first affecting reserves and parks.

Auckland City councillor Leila Boyle says daytime drinking has caused continuing problems in parks.

She says the Otahuhu ban is a coup for residents.
