A King Country shearer's bid to beat a newly established shearing record has fallen short by just six sheep.
Stacey Te Huia challenged the new world eight-hour ewe-shearing record set by Far North shearer Matthew Smith less than a week ago.
He was on target halfway through the attempt on Tuesday, but at the final bell was still six short of the number needed to top the record of 578 ewes.
