A Malaysian student killed in a crash at Lake Pūkaki will be remebered at a funeral in Christchurch on Wednesday.

Four people died in the crash between two vehicles and a motorcycle on State Highway 8, near Tekapo Canal Road, on Saturday.

Two of the dead were foreign students who attended Canterbury University, with Malaysia's New Straits Times reporting they were Megat Ashman Aqif Megat Irman Jefn and Wan Nur Adlina Alisa.

The High Commission for Malaysia said one of the students will be buried in Christchurch, while a repatriation process was underway for the other student.

Members of both their families have since travelled to New Zealand.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his condolences to the families of the students.

In a post on Facebook, he said the Malaysian government would provide assistance to victims and their families through the High Commission in New Zealand.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
