A stolen car has collided with a train in central Christchurch.

Police officers saw two stolen cars on Blenheim Road at about 4am on Tuesday, but both fled before they could be stopped.

A spokesperson said a short time later, police were alerted to a crash on Lincoln Road in Addington between one of the stolen cars and a train.

One person was in the car when it was hit and they have been treated for minor injuries, they said.

A person of interest was speaking with police and they were continuing to look for the other stolen car.

Lincoln Road is closed between Moorhouse Ave and Harman Street while the Serious Crash Unit investigates.
