The main route into Raglan has now reopened after a car crash brought down power lines on State Highway 23.

In a statement, police said a car collided with a power pole around 5pm at Whatawhata near Heddon Road.

No serious injuries were sustained as a result of the crash but power lines have fallen across both sides of the road.

Traffic had backed up in both directions and police said the road was likely to be blocked for some time.

Motorists were urged to delay travel or take an alternative route.
