A year on from the death of a New Zealand Post worker, the postal service has reviewed its electric vehicles and updated its processes.

Wellington man Sam Kelman died on 30 December, 2021, when his electric buggy rolled down a bank in Tawa.

Chief executive David Walsh told a select committee this month NZ Post had concluded that no one specific factor contributed to the accident.

Walsh said the death had "a huge impact for his team in Porirua" as well as the wider NZ Post family.

He said the company followed very thorough processes following the accident, including reviewing how round management was undertaken and reviewing the Paxster vehicle to ensure there were no fundamental faults.

"We've made sure we've had ongoing training and updating of our processes as well."

He said the company has also cooperated with investigation organisations such as WorkSafe, Waka Kotahi and police.

NZ Post board chair Carol Campbell told the select committee they had also been looking for a fitting way of honouring Kelman's memory.

"As part of our 2022 awards for our people, we announced the inaugural Sam Kelman Ngākau nui Award. The award epitomises Sam's contribution at NZ Post and will be an ongoing way to remember and reflect the high regard in which he was held."

She said their thoughts continued to be with Kelman's family as the one-year anniversary of his death approached.
