Man faces multiple charges after Levin police stand-off

A man has been charged after a police stand-off of more than 24 hours in Levin last week.

The 62-year-old Levin man has been charged with threatens to kill, causing harm by posting digital communication, arson, and possession of an offensive weapon.

More than 80 neighbours were evacuated from near the Bledisloe St house during the stand-off that concluded Friday, which ended with the house in flames and the man taken to Palmerston North Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

The man had reportedly been threatening self-harm throughout.

The man has now been released from hospital and is remanded in custody, scheduled to reappear in Levin District Court on 31 August.

A number of investigations relating to the incident are ongoing, police said.
