At Auckland Airport, 22 regional flights were cancelled due to the extensive fog, affecting services to Tauranga, Keri Keri and Palmerston North.

MetService said the fog and low cloud covered many areas of the upper North Island, and was likely to last most of the morning in Auckland.

Harbour ferry passengers were warned to expect delays of up to 20 minutes on all services due to extreme fog in the harbour. The 7.30am Waiheke to Auckland service was cancelled.

Waka Kotahi advised motorists to keep vehicle lights on, allow extra time and mind following distances in the reduced visibility.
