Ten arrested after ram raid on North Shore dairy

Ten young people have been arrested after a ram raid on a dairy in Belmont on Auckland's North Shore.

Police said a stolen vehicle was used to smash into a dairy on Lake Road just before 1am.

Several people entered the store and took items before fleeing in two stolen vehicles.

Police told RNZ that the offenders ranged in age from 12 to 17.

The police Eagle helicopter tracked the cars as they travelled south over the Harbour Bridge.

One vehicle was spiked on St Johns Road in St Johns and five people were taken into custody.

The other vehicle stopped near Westfield Manukau. Five people were found nearby and taken into custody, police said.

Two civilian vehicles were allegedly damaged during the incident, a police spokesperson said.

Six young people were referred to youth aid and four were to appear in the Youth Court.
