Police launched a homicide inquiry after the death of Benjamin Kimball-James Mcintosh, 37, who was found in a critical condition in the suburb of Glen Eden last Friday. He was admitted to Auckland Hospital for surgery but died two days later.

Police were making inquiries on another matter at a house in Dargaville this afternoon when they noticed a vehicle flee the scene.

Waitematā District crime manager Detective Inspector John Sutton said: "Police have pursued the vehicle as it travelled recklessly at high speeds for about 15 minutes.

"There were multiple attempts to spike the vehicle, however, it continued to attempt to evade police."

The vehicle was successfully spiked on River Road, Dargaville, and eventually brought to a stop on State Highway 14, he said in a statement.

The vehicle that was pursued and a police car were damaged.

A man and a woman, who were both wanted for questioning regarding the homicide inquiry, were now assisting police, Sutton said.

A firearm was also found in the vehicle.

Police have also found a third person at a West Auckland address who is also helping the investigation team with their ongoing inquiries into Mcintosh's death.
