A young person has been arrested after a serious assault of a shopping centre employee in Tauranga.

Police say the Bayfair Shopping Centre employee sustained a significant injury to one of his eyes on Saturday.
A youth has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He is due to appear in the Tauranga Youth Court today.
