The fire broke out near Glendhu Bay on January 9, closing the Mount Aspiring Road and burnt through 280 hectares before it was contained the following afternoon.

Incident controller Jason Sarich said they were confident the fire would not spread, with only a few hotspots remaining.

Management of the fire has now been transferred to local assistant commander Mark Mawhinney, whose focus was on mopping up the site and ensuring the fire remained within its 7.1km perimeter.

A helicopter is on standby and 15 firefighters are on site if needed.

High temperatures, wind and low humidity made for challenging conditions for firefighters before the fire was brought under control.

The forecast looks favourable and while temperatures remain warm, the high winds that make firefighting difficult have eased.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
