A burst pipe at about 7am this morning cut off access to hundreds of people across 2000 properties.

Wellington Water confirmed the pipe had been repaired at about 3pm and water should be back running to normal at 4pm.

Residents and businesses between Te Rauparaha Park and the top of Takapūwāhia Reserve had been without water supply since about 8am while repairs were underway.

While Wellington Water hoped to have it repaired by 2pm, it earlier said more time was needed because of the amount of pipe that needed excavation.

Two water tankers were supplying water to the area, one of which was posted on Awarua Street near the Elsdon Foodmarket.

Tītahi Bay residents had been asked to conserve water.
