Rescuers unable to save drowning victim at Bethells Beach

Rescuers were unable to save a person who has drowned at Te Henga Beach in Auckland this afternoon.

Police were notified of someone in trouble in the water just after 3.30pm, a spokesperson said in a statement.

The Eagle helicopter and surf lifesavers were scrambled, and rescuers managed to find the person in the water.

However, police said despite CPR attempts on shore the person died.
