Three more positive cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Taupō

9:12 pm on 13 November 2021

The Ministry of Health has confirmed three more positive results for Taupō in addition to the case announced earlier today.

Two are household contacts.

The third is a close contact. This person, who is now isolating in Taupō, travelled to Masterton last weekend, before becoming ill on Monday.

Two other household contacts of the case have tested negative.

The new locations of interest - four locations in Masterton and four in Taupō - are on the Health Ministry's website.

Anyone who visited Sin City Strippers on Thursday and Friday of this week, Pub and Grub Taupō on Thursday or DBar in Taupō on Thursday or Friday at specific times must self-isolate for two weeks, get tested immediately and call Healthline.

People who visited Challenge Petrol Station in Greytown, or The Warehouse in Masterton, Master Fried Chicken Lunch Bar or McDonald's in Masterton at specific times last weekend are urged to stay home until they get a clear test five days after exposure.

Those who visited Gull Petrol in Taupō last Sunday should watch out for symptoms for another week.

Public health staff at Toi Te Ora are continuing to interview the initial case and their contacts.

Meanwhile, wastewater tests from Tauranga (11 November) and Mount Maunganui (10 and 11 November) have returned positive for Covid-19.

Wairarapa DHB will have drive-through testing available at:

  • Wairarapa After Hours at the Masterton Medical Centre, Colombo Road - open between 9am and 4pm

Lakes DHB testing will be available at:

  • Community Testing Centre, 79 Miro Street, Taupō - open between 9am and 3pm Sunday
  • Taupō Events Centre, AC Baths Avenue - open between 8.30 and 3pm Sunday
  • Pihanga Health, Tūrangi - open between 11am and 1pm Sunday

More than four times as many people as usual got tested for Covid-19 today in Taupō after confirmation of a positive case in the town this morning.

The person, who was tested on Thursday after getting sick earlier in the week, has no known link to another case.

Lakes District Health Board incident controller Jenny Martelli said there were 307 tests carried out today, a big jump on the average daily number of just over 70.

She said the regular community testing site and another in Tūrangi both had extended opening hours, while a drive-through swabbing clinic was set up at the Taupō Events Centre.

The ministry will have further updates at 1pm tomorrow.
