Two people are dead after a firearms incident in Awarua, Northland.

Detective Inspector Rhys Johnston said police received reports of the incident on Mangakahia Road at around 7am.
He confirmed two men were found dead on the rural property.
Police are at the scene and there are cordons around the property.
"An investigation is underway to establish what has occurred," police said.
Police said it appeared the two men were known to each other.
They were not currently seeking anyone else in relation to the deaths.
