In a statement, the Ministry of Health said there were no community cases and no cases in managed isolation.

The ministry said 48 previously reported cases have now recovered and the number of active cases was now 32. The total number of confirmed cases is 2244.

It said the large number of recovered cases reported today related to several groups of recovered returnees being released from the Auckland quarantine facility over the past week.

"These include some of the 64 cases in managed isolation reported during the week ending 11 April."

Yesterday three new cases of Covid-19 were found in managed isolation facilities, and two previously reported cases were reclassified.

The ministry said today that the number of close and close-plus contacts of the border worker who tested positive earlier this week has risen to 36.

"The number has increased since yesterday as this is because the person worked three shifts during their infectious period with a number of colleagues.

"All 36 close contacts of this case have been contacted and are self-isolating."

The Ministry said 21 of them had already returned negative tests.

"Public health officials are in daily communication with all contacts to monitor their health and confirm any upcoming testing dates."
