This follows gang conflict in January where shots were fired and people were wounded.

For the past six weeks and with the aid of staff from Gisborne, Napier and Hastings, police arrested Mongrel Mob and Black Power members.

Five men were charged with offences in relation to incidents including violence, firearms and drugs charges.

A further 10 were arrested on warrants to arrest.

Twelve search warrants have also been carried out, including one in Napier where three pistols and a set of ballistic armour were seized.

Police said they would continue to target gangs and anyone else who was part of organised crime or illegally had guns.

It is part of the recently announced Operation Tauwhiro, launched by Police Commissioner Andrew Coster to crack down on gangs around New Zealand.

Police said they would continue to have dialogue with gang and community leaders to prevent future violence.
