The body of a man has been found in the Waimakariri River, north of Christchurch.

Formal identification is yet to take place, but the police believe the body to be that of 38-year-old Kapuaiwaho "Kapu" Waretini, of Auckland.
Waretini failed to return from swimming in the Waimakariri River last Saturday.
The Police National Dive Squad was called in to help with the search.
Waretini's death will be referred to the Coroner.
