Kaimai Dairy Farm Limited and the farm manager, both pleaded guilty to discharging effluent onto land in a circumstance where it may enter water.

The farm is located in the Kaimai range at the corner of Hanga Road and State Highway 29.

The prosecution was laid by the Bay of Plenty Regional Council in the Tauranga District Court for offending that occurred in December 2018.

The company was fined $23,450 and the manager and director, Glen Ashford, $34,650.

The council's compliance manager, Alex Miller, said the case showed the importance of farmers monitoring what was happening on their farm and being engaged with their role in dairy effluent disposal.

''This includes the resource consent holders, farm owners, directors, managers and staff," Miller said.

''The maintenance of irrigators and active monitoring of effluent irrigation is critical to avoiding adverse environmental impacts."
