Pharmac appoints Māori chief advisor role

Pharmac has appointed its first Māori chief advisor to better uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Trevor Simpon, from Tūhoe and Ngāti Awa, has been appointed Māori chief advisor, a role created to ensure equitable health outcomes for Māori.

Simpson has been at Health Promotion Forum for over eight years, holding the Māori portfolio as Senior Health Promotion Strategist.

He has previously worked in Crown Land administration, Treaty Settlements, and Māori social work and youth projects.

Simpson said strong Māori leadership was essential to improving the health status of tangata whenua.
