Counties Manukau Police says the child is thought to have ingested the Class B drug GBL, a potent version of liquid ecstasy, on Tuesday.

They have launched an investigation and are liaising with Oranga Tamariki.

The Drug Foundation says GBL is a more potent version of GHB, also known as fantasy.
