Five fatal crashes in 24 hours

There were five fatal crashes on New Zealand's roads yesterday.

Two people have died following a single vehicle crash late last night in Macraes, north of Dunedin.

Two others received serious injuries in the crash.

Another person was killed in a single vehicle crash that happened about 6pm in Clover Park, Counties Manukau.

Earlier on Saturday Pukepoto Road in Kaitaia was temporarily closed, after a car crash just after 3am killed one woman and left two others in hospital.

And one person died after a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on the Shenandoah Highway in Tasman in the early hours.

Police have appealed for anyone travelling in the area around 1.30am Saturday to contact them, as they may have information that could help them investigate the crash.
