With no new cases in 11 days and just one active case remaining, Jacinda Ardern said this afternoon New Zealand was ahead of schedule.

The strategy of going hard and early had paid off, in some cases beyond expectations, she said.

Cabinet will discuss moving to alert level 1 on 8 June and it was possible New Zealand could move to level 1 by 10 June, Ardern said.

Restrictions on physical distancing and mass gatherings would be removed in level 1, but strict border controls would remain in place.
