Police have confirmed the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of a young girl in Auckland on Wednesday was a false complaint.
Detective Inspector Scott Beard of the Auckland police said following investigations today, police are satisfied no abduction has occurred.
He said police are continuing to make equiries to ascertain exactly what happened and ensuring the complainant is being provided with support.
The principal of Western Springs College, Ivan Davis, said the claim caused huge concern among parents and it is a relief to learn it did not happen.
