Covid-19 updates from New Zealand and around the world on 11 May

As Covid-19 spreads around the world, it can be daunting keeping up with the information. For RNZ, our responsibility is to give you verified, up to the minute, trustworthy information to help you make decisions about your lives and your health. We'll also be asking questions of officials and decision makers about how they're responding to the virus. Our aim is to keep you informed.

The government has announced it will move New Zealand from alert level 3 to level 2 through various stages starting on Thursday.

She said retail, malls, cafes, restaurants, cinemas and other public spaces including playgrounds and gyms would be able to reopen on Thursday, 14 May.

Schools would return to normal classes from Monday 18 May, while bars would have to wait until Thursday 21 to reopen.

She warned that groupings - including parties, weddings, funerals and group bookings at restaurants or bars - would also be restricted to just 10 people.
